Why is there an increased need for micronutrients?

    • Eating habits

      • An unbalanced diet, the use of convenience foods and too little time for independent healthy cooking can increase the need for certain vitamins and minerals in the long term, as they are not optimally supplied through the daily diet.
      • A balanced, plant-based diet and the use of a wide variety of foods are crucial for adequate nutrition. If nutrients are not adequately covered by food, dietary supplements can help meet nutrient needs.
    • Stress

      • Both physical and emotional stress affect a wide range of functions in the body. It therefore not only affects energy requirements. Nutrients that are needed for energy metabolism and nerve function, as well as antioxidants, are particularly needed in stressful situations.
      • Relaxation exercises such as yoga, meditation and breathing exercises, sufficient sleep and physical activity can help prevent stress and its consequences. A targeted supply of nutrients also helps to counteract the negative effects.
    • Sports

      • Regular intensive training not only increases the need for energy and protein to build and maintain muscle mass. Due to the loss through sweat, various minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium are also needed for muscle function.
      • The requirements vary greatly depending on age, gender, level of fitness and type of sport. It is therefore worthwhile to determine individual needs and to specifically address the requirements for nutrient intake.
    • Lifestyle

      • Smoking, lack of sleep, regular alcohol consumption and the use of other stimulants increase the need for antioxidants and certain vitamins and minerals. If the intake is insufficient, this can lead to physical complaints and specific diseases in the long term.
      • In order to counteract free radicals in the body, smokers are advised to consume up to 40% more vitamin C daily. People who regularly drink alcohol should pay particular attention to their intake of B vitamins, vitamins A, D and E, as well as magnesium, zinc and selenium.
