Micronutrient test (pets)
Optimal nutrient supply forms the basis for well-being, vitality and health. However, not all animals have the same needs. Individual supply of micronutrients such as vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amino acids is therefore important for pets. Our test can make it possible to adjust the diet specifically.

Amino acids
Amino acids
Amino acids are chemical compounds that can be strung together to form long chains and thus form the basic structure of proteins. They are found in all living things and are responsible for various vital functions in the human body. Part of the amino acids can be produced by the body itself and therefore they are classified as non-essential. The essential amino acids, on the other hand, are indispensable and must be taken in regularly with food.

Vitamins & Vitaminoids
Vitamins & Vitaminoids
Vitamins are organic compounds and unlike other nutrients, vitamins do not provide energy. They are substances that the body itself cannot synthesize (with the exception of vitamin D). Therefore, they are considered essential for humans, as they must be ingested with food. Vitaminoids are vitamin-like substances that includes a number of different substances and metabolites. They were all initially assigned to the group of vitamins until it was discovered that the body can synthesize them itself. They thus belong to the conditionally essential nutrients, since in the case of illness or certain metabolic conditions, it may be possible that their own synthesis does not cover the daily requirement.

FAQ
-
Why should you have your pet tested for micronutrients?
Our micronutrient test shows you which micronutrients your body currently needs more of. This creates the basis for a targeted adjustment of your diet and, if necessary, supplementation.
-
How expensive is a micronutrient test?
You can find the prices and all information in our online store. Here we will also inform you about current offers.
-
What are nutrients and how do they affect the body?
Nutrients are substances that humans need for their development. In childhood and adolescence, your body needs nutrients for healthy growth. But nutrients are also essential for a healthy life in adulthood.
-
What nutrients are there?
By nutrients we mean so-called macro- and micronutrients. Macronutrients are fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids are micronutrients.
-
How do you notice that your pet's nutrient balance is not optimal?
Your pet’s diet has a major impact on their well-being, mood and quality of life. If you frequently observe the following symptoms in your pet, this could indicate an inadequate supply of micronutrients:
Physical symptoms:
– Fatigue
– Increased need for sleep
– Difficulty concentrating
– Frequent infections
– Weakness or exhaustion
– Loss of appetite
– Problems with skin, coat or claws
Behavioral symptoms:
– Cravings for unusual foods
– Signs of stress or anxiety
– Mood swings
– Sluggishness or low activity
– Nervousness or restlessness
– Excessive irritability
-
What are the causes of an inadequate supply of micronutrients?
There can be many reasons for an inadequate supply of micronutrients. Examples include malnutrition, liver disease, but also inadequate digestion (maldigestion) or absorption of nutrients (malabsorption).
-
What is the difference between lack and need?
At Medicross, we test your pet’s micronutrient requirements. This describes the amount of nutrients required to maintain specific functions in the body. Micronutrient requirements can vary depending on your pet’s age, breed, activity level and health status. For example, very active or pregnant animals often have a higher need for certain nutrients.
A micronutrient deficiency occurs when requirements are not met over a longer period of time and the body’s own reserves are exhausted. A slight deficiency can lead to changes in the organism, which can manifest themselves through non-specific symptoms such as tiredness, weakness or changes in behavior. In a more pronounced stage (latent deficiency), important bodily functions can be impaired, which can lead to health problems such as anemia in the case of iron deficiency or weakening of the immune system in the case of vitamin C deficiency. While we determine your pet’s micronutrient requirements, we do not test for a possible deficiency. An accurate diagnosis of a micronutrient deficiency should be made by a veterinarian.
-
Is an overdose of micronutrients possible?
An overdose of micronutrients can be harmful to your body in the long term. The additional intake of certain micronutrients can partially reduce or completely block the absorption of other nutrients. If you consume nutrients in high concentrations over a longer period of time, this can lead to certain side effects. These include diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. In the long term, the liver or kidneys can also suffer from an oversupply.
-
What can a micronutrient test do and what can't it do?
Our micronutrient test aims to determine nutrient requirements and not to diagnose nutrient deficiencies. The test is not intended to diagnose diseases. It therefore does not replace a medical diagnosis or medical treatment by a doctor. If you are suffering from severe pain or discomfort, please consult a doctor immediately.
-
How should the results of the micronutrient test be classified?
The results of the micronutrient test should always be seen as guidelines. It shows you whether you have an increased need for certain micronutrients. But not that you are completely lacking these nutrients. It is not a test for deficiency symptoms. If this is your concern, we recommend that you seek medical advice.
-
Should I do the test at my vet?
You can order our test in our online store and then carry it out from the comfort of your own home. You will be able to understand your lab report without any previous medical knowledge, as we attach great importance to making your analysis easy to understand. As soon as your results are available, you can access them online on your computer, tablet or cell phone. After each order, detailed instructions for the selected test will be sent directly to your e-mail address, explaining step by step how to take the sample for analysis. In general, the sample can be taken discreetly, quickly and easily without the need for medical professionals. The test is not intended to diagnose diseases. If you suffer from severe pain or discomfort, please consult a doctor immediately.
-
Is there an increased need for micronutrients in certain phases of life?
The requirement can be increased in certain phases of life. For example, during pregnancy, during the suckling period or in the event of an infection.
-
How does the ordering process work at Medicross?
You can order our tests quickly and easily in our online store. We will send you the submission form directly afterwards by e-mail. All we need from you is a strand of hair. You send this together with the submission form by post directly to our laboratory. Your strand of hair will be analyzed there and you will receive a detailed result by e-mail.
-
What types of tests are there?
We currently offer tests for micronutrients and intolerances. Both tests are also available for humans.
-
What is the difference between a blood analysis at the doctor's and our hair tests?
Our tests are based on complementary medicine. They determine your nutritional requirements and test you for any intolerances. Blood analyses, on the other hand, examine the presence of certain parameters in the blood (vitamins, minerals, proteins or antibodies) and thus describe the current supply status or the occurrence of an allergic reaction. In contrast to a blood analysis, it is not possible with our method to look at individual values in isolation.
-
What does complementary medicine mean?
The term complementary medicine covers a range of medical therapies and diagnostic methods that are not part of conventional medicine. They are often used as a supplement to conventional medicine without replacing it.
Complementary and alternative medicine is not always recognized by the scientific community. One of the most common reasons why people seek complementary medicine is the desire for a holistic diagnosis. Many now feel the need to combine different medical methods and approaches in order to improve their health and well-being holistically.
Complementary medicine includes, for example, natural healing methods such as herbal medicine, homeopathy and acupuncture, as well as various forms of manual therapy such as chiropractic and osteopathy. Alternative diagnostic methods such as iris diagnostics or kinesiology can also be counted as complementary medicine. Although there are many people who benefit from these approaches and see them as a useful addition to conventional medicine, their effectiveness is still often questioned by conventional medicine.
-
What is my result in a Medicross self-test?
Your result is presented in a detailed and self-explanatory way and designed in such a way that all parameters are given as a % value. This means that the higher the value, the higher your need for this micronutrient.
